Arantxa Iturbe (1964) holds a degree in Media Studies and works as an announcer for Basque Radio. In 2000, she won the Rikardo Arregi Prize for journalism. She has also contributed to a number of newspapers, including “El Diario Vasco” and “Gara”. Her first narrative work was “Ezer baino lehen” [Before Anything Else] (1992, 17 short stories), then the collection “Lehenago zen berandu” [Earlier Was Already Late] in 1995. Iturbe turned to the theater in collaboration with director Agurtzane Intxaurraga and in 2003 and in 2011 won the Sociedad General de Autores y Editores (Society of Authors and Publishers) Max Award. In the distinguished hybrid book Kontu-jaten [Hanging on Every Word] (2006), Iturbe takes as a point of departure the testimony given by an old woman, and adds a short fictional chapter to each section of the declaration.
