Daniel Odija (b. 1974) is a prose writer and journalist living in Słupsk. He is the author of a short story collection „Szklana huta” (The Glassworks, 2005) and novels: „Ulica” (The Street, 2001), „Tartak” (The Sawmill, 2003, shortlisted for the 2004 NIKE Literary Award), „Niech to nie będzie sen” (Let It Not Be a Dream, 2008, shortlisted for the European Prize for Literature) and „Kronika umarłych” (The Chronicle of The Dead, 2010, longlisted for the 2011 NIKE Award). Odija is also the author of radio plays, docs’ commentaries, a ballet libretto („Dreams of Freedom”) and co-author of the short feature film „Basia from Podlasie” awarded at the 2011 T-Mobile New Horizons Festival. “The Sawmill” was adapted for stage in 2004 in the Słowacki Thetre in Kraków (dir. by Agnieszka Olsen). In 2016 “The Street” was also adapted for theatre by Iwo Vedral in the Nowy Theatre in Słupsk. In June 2017 a comic book by Odija was published (drawings by Wojciech Stefaniec) – first of the tetralogy “Bardo”. Odija has written for „Tygodnik Powszechny”, „Gazeta Wyborcza”, „Playboy” and various anthologies of contemporary literature. His books have been translated to French, German and Ukrainian.
