David Zábranský was born in 1977 in Prague. A lawyer by education, he debuted in 2006 with the novel „Slabost pro každou jinou pláž” (Any Beach But This) which won the prestigious Magnesia Litera Award as a Discovery of the Year. Later he published stories „Šternův pokus milovat” (Stern’s Attempt to Love), „Kus umělce” (Piece of an Artist) and „Edita Farkaš”. His most recent book is a novel „Martin Juhás čili Československo” (Martin Juhás or Czechoslovakia) for which Zábranský was nominated to Magnesia Litera (this time for the Book of the Year). Zábranský also writes for theatre, his widely discussed and awarded play „Herec a truhlář Majer mluví o stavu své domoviny” (Actor and capenter Majer talks about teh state of his homeland) was adapted for stage in 2016 in Prague. Zábranský’s next novel about migration and Donald Trump’s rule will be published in November 2017 in the Brno publishing house Větrné Mlýny.
