Karmele Jaio Eiguren (1970) has written three collections of stories – “Hamabost zauri” [Fifteen Wounds] (Elkar, 2004; Heridas crónicas, 2010, Ttarttalo), “Zu bezain ahul” [As Weak As You] (2007, Elkar) and “Ez naiz ni” [Not Me] (2102, Elkar) – and two novels – “Amaren eskuak” [My Mother’s Hands] (2006, Elkar; Las manos de mi madre, Ttarttalo, 2008) and “Musika airean” [Music in the Air] (2010, Elkar; Música en el aire, Ttarttalo, 2013). “Amaren eskuak” [My Mother’s Hands, published in 2016, Parthian Books, UK], which was well received by Basque readers, has been adapted for the screen by Mireia Gabilondo and was presented at the Donostia-San Sebastian International Film Festival. English PEN have awarded Parthian the prestigious PEN Translates Award and a partial translation grant for “Amaren eskuak”. Jaio´s stories have also been adapted for the theatre.
